Memphis Central High School
Class of 1963

45TH Reunion: Weekend of June 20, 2008

From David Van Hoozer (CHS '62)

I am one of many people on a committee to raise over $ 3 million to supplement a $ 20 million plus budget from the City to renovate Central High School. Among the items in the project are a new building to house the 9th
graders that attend there now, new air conditioning chillers, new windows, elevators and bathroom updates to comply with ADA codes, new labs and renovated classrooms, demolition of Crump Stadium, renovation of the
gym, 4,000 seat updated football field and a concession area and fieldhouse.  We have been meeting for months and the project has just officially kicked off. I am receiving brochures and donation forms today and I am looking for someone in your class to assist us in the mailout. I will supply the material and even the stamps if need be and all we need is someone in each class to be responsible for mailing these out to appropriate classmates.  I have asked Jim Cole to handle the mailout for the class of 63, but I know you, Mr. Pepper, can be a lot of help with addresses, and posting the information on your website.  Bobby, you can do the website information and the mailout for the 60 class if you have the time.  Judy, you can help me with the mailout and I can even give you a directory  of addresses for 61 to work out of. I am just trying to spread out the labor of love.

I am doing our Class and a few others and I need some help with CHS 60, 61 and 63. The construction is to begin within 90 days and the scope of the supplemental items is dependent completely on how much of the $3.5 we can raise. We already have a $ 500,000 pledge so there are some serious people involved.  There may be a meeting or two to attend, but not much else. It is definitely something very helpful that can be done from home in a few hours. I will not commit you without your approval. Please let me know if you are available to help and I will get the supplies to you. This really should not take very long to do to help spread the word about this exciting project.
