Woods at my house don’t Whisper any more since the little tornado we had a month ago. I lost
about 10 large trees in the back yard, and 4 in the front.  Thank God that we didn’t even have a
damaged shingle on the house.

I don’t like pine trees, anyway.  It has taken about $2000 to clean up, with more work on the way.
My next-door neighbor has spent about $4000 cleaning the debris out of his yard, and that includes
disposing of some of my trees that had fallen across his property.  Insurance doesn’t cover this kind
of thing, just house damage.

The tornado was a small one, but several neighborhoods were hit pretty hard. A lady at our church
lost her house, and the City of Roswell Park lost about 300 trees.  Nobody was hurt!

Looking forward to seeing everyone at the reunion.

Two brooms were hanging in the closet and after a while they got to know each other so well,they
decided to get married.

One broom was, of course, the bride broom, the other the groom broom.The bride broom looked
very beautiful in her white dress.  The groom broom was handsome and suave in his tuxedo.  The
wedding was lovely.
After the wedding, at the wedding dinner, the bride-broom leaned over and said to the groom-broom,

"I think I am going to have a little whisk broom!!!"

"IMPOSSIBLE!!" said the groom broom. "WE HAVEN'T EVEN SWEPT TOGETHER!"

April 13^th – Update from Paula Wicker Hamby. James is now eating baby food by mouth along with
having the tummy tube for formula...another miracle...Melissa's (dtr-in law) van was totaled on I-24 by
a 30 ft towing truck...sideswipe....not one scratch on anyone, including the driver who cried...God is
good...Jim (son) found a great Chevy van to replace.

April 11^th – U.T. Knoxville will begin charging students for football tickets this fall. The price, $90 for
season tickets, $15 for a single game.

Aoril 14^th – In the first of two unrelated incidents at the county’s Southwind Middle School, an eighth-
grade boy was arrested after posting a Myspace entry threatening another student. Apparently, the
threats were in retaliation for the victim’s naming his attackers in an April 10^th
assault during which four students beat the victim, requiring him to be transported to the hospital.

On Wednesday, an eighth-grade Southwind girl was arrested and faces expulsion for physically
attacking a teacher.

April 15^th – Meanwhile, back in the city, 16 Northside High students were arrested and charged with
simple assault, disorderly conduct and inciting a riot for their part in a fight at the school. Five MPD

April 17^th – Today’s C.A. reports that AhDream Smith, daughter of Shelia Smith, the Homecoming
Queen from Central High School is a finalist in the 28th Tennessee Homecoming Queen competition.

April 17^th - ♪♫ And the beat goes on.. ♪♫ A fight in the cafeteria of the Pyramid Academy resulted
in one student being transported to the hospital and 30 students being charged with inciting a riot,

April 18^th – Calvin Hicks CHS’61 died this morning at his Midtown home.

April 20^th – Joe W. Davis III, who attended Fairview and then Central, died today in Dallas, Tx.

Speaking of Mary Isabel Catherine Bernadette O'Brien, we were, weren’t we; you

undoubtedly will remember her better as the great Dusty Springfield. The female
member of the “British Invasion” making the greatest impact in America, Dusty
Springfield’s voice has been described as sultry, husky, erotic. She has been
referred to as "White Negress" and "White Queen of Soul.

Dusty’s career began in the Lana Sisters vocal group. From 1960 – 1963, Dusty sang with brother
Dion O’Brien (AKA Tom Springfield) and Tim Field in The Springfields including on their one major hit,
the folk classic, “Silver Threads and Golden Needles”

From 1963 to 1970 she had 18 singles to hit the “Billboard top 100” Her top U.S. hits include “I Only
Want To Be With You”, “Wishin’ and Hopin”, “Son of A Preacher Man” and “You Don’t Have To Say
You Love Me”. This writer’s personal favorite is the haunting "I Just Don't What to do With Myself".
Written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David, the 1964 single hit #3 in England, while remaining
uncharted in the U.S. One of her most successful albums, “Dusty In Memphis was recorded in 1969
at The American Sound Studios with Jerry Wexler., the back-up vocal band The Sweet Inspirations
and the instrumental band the Memphis Cats.

As her popularity waned, Dusty sank into abuse of alcohol and drugs. However, she did host various
BBC programs and provided backup to various pop singers. She enjoyed somewhat of a comeback
in the late ‘80’s and early 90’s. In 1995, while in Nashville recording her final album “A Very Fine
Love”, she became ill. Upon her return to England, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Dusty
Springfield died on March 2, 1999, ten days before she was to be inducted into the Rock and Roll
Hall of Fame; she was 59.
